Position Reports to: Family Birth Center Nurse Manager
Department Description: Wilson Health's Family Birth Center (FBC) consists of 10 spacious birthing suites; 4 recovery/post-partum rooms for C-section deliveries; and 3 observation rooms, C-section surgical suite conveniently located adjacent to the post-partum recovery rooms, Large walk-in showers and Sweet Beginnings Boutique (Lactation Services) conveniently located inside the Family Birth Center lobby.
Job Summary: The Family Birth Center Registered Nurse is responsible for providing prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to pregnant patients during labor, obstetrical emergencies, and other obstetric conditions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Makes staffing assignments based upon a determination of the total nursing needs of patients
Coordinates the assignment of staff to patient census and acuity in conjunction with the Nursing Supervisor.
Staffing resources, staff skill level, needs of the orientees and continuity of care must be considered.
Assigns or reassigns patient assignments in response to the changing needs of the patients.
Completes the Charge nurse sheet as accurately as possible.
Reviews staffing, current shift as well as that of the next shift in conjunction with the Nursing Supervisor.
Coordinates patient flow within the department according to availability of nursing staff, room availability and equipment needs.
Leads and clinically manages OB triage patients.
Attends deliveries and "catches" babies/ mentors staff to do the same by assessing NRP hands-on competency.
Communicates with appropriate departments or nursing supervisor when need arises for equipment or supplies.
Coordinates break and lunch relief for staff.
Addresses staff behavior during the shift and follows through with the Director utilizing "Just Culture" principals.
Creates a psychologically healthy work environment for team by coaching up both providers and staff whenever possible.
Serves as shared governance liaison creates a bridge between hospital departments and leadership with staff to optimize collaboration in patient care coordination
Participates in Division and Hospital committees as assigned by Director of Women's Services.
Participates in hospital and community educational activities.
Identifies educational needs and collaborates with Perinatal Nurse Specialist in creating annual competency and safety drill teaching opportunities.
Serves as a mentor to new Birth Center personnel Orientation and continuing education Clinical competency assessment
Participates in research, patient safety, quality improvement activities, and special projects and inspires staff active participation
Provides assistance to and coverage for the Director & Perinatal Nurse Specialist.
Actively contributes to creating and maintaining a work culture that values collaboration and teamwork.
Plans and coordinates program activities to meet regulatory standards related to:
Environmental rounds HFAP Ohio Department of Health
Performs activities related to cluster/staff management:
Scheduling Event report follow-up Performance appraisal Competency assessment and education Interviewing of prospective staff Audits Reconciliation of billing sheets
Qualifications:
Must be licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio with no board action.
At least 5 years experience as a Registered Nurse in a Labor/Delivery unit.
Current NRP, BLS, ACLS, STABLE, Completion of Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification
Certified Lactation Counselor credential preferred or willing to obtain within first year of hire
AWONN Active Member Preferred; must obtain within 6 months of hire if not active
STABLE certification
Demonstrates clinical competency in the areas of antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, intra-operative care for c/sections, instrumental deliveries and neonatal nursing through the application of the nursing process while adhering to standards of practice, policies, and procedures.
